This is Protea pityphylla, also known as the Ceres sugarbush or the ‘skaamblomsuikerbos’ (shy flowered sugar bush. This low growing sprawling Protea has pendular red flowers with a distinct scent of cookie dough to attract its main pollinator. Protea pityphylla is commercially grown by only a handfull of cut flower farms, this will be one of many species of Protea that we will showcase at our floral display for South Africa at this year’s Chelsea flower show. | Leon Kluge
