It’s not just farms — taxing family firms in the throes of succession is a bad idea.

Labour repeatedly ruled out an inheritance tax raid on farmers before the general election. Steve Reed, then the shadow environment secretary, said it was “desperate nonsense” to claim he was planning to scrap tax breaks for agricultural workers weeks before the vote on July 4.
