A hurricane watch is in effect for Hawaii Island as Hurricane Nolo is expected to intensify into major hurricane.

UH has launched a new website that provides easy access to up-to-date rainfall and wind observations for Tropical Storm Nolo.

President Donald Trump approved Hawaii’s request for a pre-landfall Presidential Emergency Declaration for Hurricane Nolo.

Nolo also is expected to bring dangerous coastal conditions. A storm surge — an abnormal rise in seawater pushed toward shore by a storm — could raise water levels 1 to 3 feet above ground along parts of the Big Island’s coast, particularly if the surge coincides with high tide.

Hawaii will again face potentially life-threatening flooding and mudslides as Tropical Storm Nolo starts to strengthen and edge closer to the state’s eastern islands.
