Tropical Storm Fay has redeveloped in the Atlantic and a tropical depression could form today or Friday off Africa, according to forecasters.

Fay is expected to weaken over the weekend, while another disturbance could become a short-lived tropical storm.

Surigae was a tropical storm in the Philippine Sea late Thursday Japan time, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center said in its latest advisory. Flash flooding can occur well inland and away from the storm’s center. Even weaker storms can produce excessive rainfall that can flood low-lying areas.

The tropics remain active with Fay reforming to a Tropical Storm. It is expected to weaken again. The area just off the coast of Africa has a chance to become a depression later this week.
