The White House and Ukraine have made significant progress toward reaching an agreement that would provide the U.S. with access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals and tighten the long-term relationship between Kyiv and Washington.

The U.S. and Ukraine are near a deal to hand valuable mineral rights to the U.S., an agreement the Trump administration has sought as compensation for military aid to fight off Russia’s invasion, people familiar with the matter said.

The Trump administration threatened to pull Ukraine’s access to Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet as part of negotiations to keep the country’s military supplied, sources claimed to Reuters on Friday.
