CHICAGO — As Paramount looks to take over Warner Bros. Discovery , it’s racked up billions of dollars in financial backing from three Gulf countries. And the U.S. Federal Communications Commission has now approved the company’s ask for sizeable indirect ownership from those foreign investors.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Paramount Skydance is in talks with California officials to resolve an antitrust lawsuit blocking its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. Shares of Paramount gained 4.8%, to $10.70, after Friday's closing bell. Warner Bros. shares rose 6.9%, to $29.72.

"The Powerpuff Girls" contains plenty of homages to Caped Crusader, but it nearly had a crossover episode with the fan-favorite "Batman: The Animated Series."

Insiders on both sides of the talks between Paramount and Rob Bonta and State AGs say a "hold separate" maneuver" could allow the merger to proceed provisionally.
