Ford has recalled 223,472 F-150 pickup trucks from the 2023–2027 model years because their fuel tanks could detach while the vehicles are being driven, creating a significant “road hazard” for other motorists.

Ford is issuing a safety recall for select Battery Energy Control Modules (BECM) installed as replacement parts on electric vehicles, such as the Mustang Mach-E equipped with Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries.

Ford has urgently halted sales of one of its most popular vehicles due to safety concerns and recalled the rest at the same time the company’s Australian boss defended its “critical” reputation for quality.

A separating fuel tank is the problem behind the largest of three recalls, while the other campaigns address suspension and rear-axle hardware

It's fewer recalls in a smaller market, but Ford is also the recall leader in Australia with vehicles imported from Thailand, US, and South Africa.

Some remedies are still a long way off.
