Flood watches remain in effect for parts of New Mexico through midnight as heavy rain may trigger flash flooding in western counties.

Flooded roadways were reported across El Paso as rain and strong winds swept through the Borderland, with more wet weather expected through the end of the week.

Three people have drowned, including one juvenile, as dangerous monsoonal moisture continues to inundate the Four Corners region.

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Recent rainfall across New Mexico has closed several roads. The New Mexico Department of Transportation closed U.S. Route 70 in Hidalgo County due to flood damage. Both directions of the road are closed from the intersection with NM Route 90 all the way to the Arizona state line.

Forecasters cautioned that flash flooding would affect nearby reservoirs, bridges, culverts and roadways, according to KOAT's report on the warning. Excessive rainfall over the burn scar was expected to hit the Rio Bonito, Eagle Creek, Cedar Creek and Rio Ruidoso drainages — the same waterway that has been involved in major flooding in the area.
